School funding

There hasn’t been a comprehensive review of funding for all schools for over 30 years.

Bipartisan support from federal and state governments exists for the funding of all non-government schools. However, all previous and present funding models used by government have had significant flaws.

The present (SES) model is arguably the best model thus far, but inequities in its implementation have been controversial. High fee schools are thought to receive too much and disadvantaged schools too little.

Government schools have been neglected by state governments and seriously underfunded.

Australia is thought to be slipping behind other advanced nations in educational outcomes and its economic competitiveness is falling behind.

This Review has been initiated to address all these and other related matters.
